Since 9 May 2026, the Tesla Model S is no longer built. Against a new Porsche Taycan 4S, it can therefore only be compared as a used car. Over three years as a company car, the gap in taxable benefit in kind reaches €4,126.98 in favour of the Tesla. The Porsche takes the lead back on charging speed and on the number of workshops in Wallonia.
Porsche Taycan or Tesla Model S: which one costs less over three years?
The used Model S, for a company director who registers it through the company. The new Taycan 4S, for someone who wants full warranty cover and a workshop less than an hour from Namur, Liège or Arlon.
I set three cars side by side, because the honest comparison is no longer new against new. A new Taycan 4S. A Taycan 4S registered in February 2022, to compare two used cars with each other. A Model S Dual Motor registered in May 2024, bought on the last Belgian price list.
A note for readers new to Belgium: the ATN (avantage de toute nature) is the benefit in kind a company car adds to the driver's taxable income. It is calculated on the car's original catalogue price, not on what it is worth today.
| Item | New Taycan 4S | 2022 Taycan 4S | 2024 Model S Dual Motor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original catalogue price | €124,658.41 | €110,534 | €93,970 |
| Maximum power | 340 kW | not verified | 680 hp |
| Maximum fast-charging power | 270 kW, 320 kW optional | not verified | 250 kW |
| 10 to 80% battery | 18 min (Porsche) | not verified | 30 min 36 s (EVKX) |
| Taxable benefit in kind over three years | €12,052.68 | €8,185.84 | €7,925.70 |
| Battery warranty | 8 years or 160,000 km | until 2030 | 8 years or 240,000 km |
| After-sales sites in Wallonia | 4 | 4 | 1 |
The benefit in kind is calculated on the original catalogue value, with the age coefficient in force at the start of each year of ownership from October 2026. That is a simplification: the coefficient changes on the monthly anniversary of first registration, not on 1 October. Energy and insurance are not in the table. No public, dated premium exists for these two models in Belgium, and I do not estimate one.
Can you still buy a new Tesla Model S in Belgium?
Not really. Elon Musk announced the end of the Model S and Model X on the investor call at the end of January 2026, to free up the Fremont plant for the Optimus robot. The last Model S came off the line on 9 May 2026, after fourteen years of production. The cars still at dealers are stock.
The last Belgian price list recorded by Autotijd dates from April 2024: €93,970 for the 680 hp Dual Motor, €108,970 for the 1,020 hp Plaid. The cars stay connected and keep receiving software updates. Some repairs, however, will depend on the parts still in stock, and nobody publishes a lead time.
What is the benefit-in-kind gap between the two for a company director in 2026?
€4,126.98 over three years between the new Taycan 4S and the 2024 Model S. €1,438.79 in the first year.
The formula leaves no room: catalogue value × age coefficient × 6/7 × 4%, the floor percentage applying automatically to an electric car. For the new Taycan 4S at €124,658.41, that gives €4,274.00 of taxable benefit in the first year, then €4,017.56 and €3,761.12. For the Model S, the catalogue value is already reduced to 88%: €2,835.21, then €2,641.90 and €2,448.59.
| Year of ownership | New Taycan 4S | 2022 Taycan 4S | 2024 Model S |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | €4,274.00 (100%) | €2,880.20 (76%) | €2,835.21 (88%) |
| Year 2 | €4,017.56 (94%) | €2,652.82 (70%) | €2,641.90 (82%) |
| Year 3 | €3,761.12 (88%) | €2,652.82 (70%) | €2,448.59 (76%) |
| Total | €12,052.68 | €8,185.84 | €7,925.70 |
Between the two used cars, the gap falls to €260.14 over three years. It no longer decides anything.
Tax deductibility for the company is the same for all three. An electric car acquired before 1 January 2027 stays 100% deductible for as long as it is held, and the rate drops to 95% for an acquisition in 2027. For a purchase, the date that counts is that of the purchase order signed by buyer and seller, not delivery or registration. A used car bought in 2026 gets the same rate as a new one.
Why does a used Model S bought at a higher price carry more benefit in kind?
Because the benefit in kind follows the original price, not the market value. And Tesla moved its prices a lot.
On the Belgian lists recorded by Autotijd, the Model S Dual Motor cost €114,990 in January 2023 and €93,970 in April 2024. The Plaid went from €139,990 in August 2022 to €108,970. Two identical Model S cars, registered fifteen months apart, therefore do not carry the same tax base.
In October 2026, a Dual Motor from January 2023 enters its fourth year and its coefficient is 82%: €3,232.86 of annual benefit in kind. A Dual Motor from May 2024, coefficient 88%: €2,835.21. The older car, worth less on the market, costs €397.65 more in taxable benefit per year.
The taxman reads the price paid by the first owner. The dealer reads the latest price cut. On a Model S, the two figures are €21,020 apart.
The original catalogue value appears on the certificate of conformity and on the first buyer's invoice. Ask for one of them before signing on behalf of a company.
Which one charges faster on a 350 kW charger?
The Taycan. Neither uses the full power of a 350 kW charger.
Porsche quotes 270 kW of DC charging power for the Taycan 4S with the 89 kWh gross battery, and 320 kW with the 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus. The manufacturer gives 18 minutes from 10 to 80% on every version, measured at 15 °C. The Model S tops out at 250 kW. EVKX publishes 30 minutes 36 seconds for the same window.
Twelve minutes apart per stop. On a Namur to Munich trip with two charges, that adds up to twenty-five minutes. Winter lengthens both times, and the cost of energy by region is detailed in the real winter range of a premium electric car.
How much depreciation should you expect on a used Taycan or Model S?
No public, dated Belgian series measures it for these two models. I give the two verifiable markers.
The first is the Belgian new price, which sets the ceiling for used values. Tesla cut it: €21,020 less on the Dual Motor between January 2023 and April 2024, or 18.3%. Porsche raised it: the Taycan 4S cost €110,534 in February 2022 and shows €124,658.41 on the Belgian configurator on 18 October 2026, a 12.8% rise across two generations. A price cut hits every car already sold on the same day.
The second comes from the United States. On 18 October 2026, VinAssessment records a typical asking price 37% lower for a 2024 model-year Taycan and 54% lower for a 2022 than for a 2027. These are American asking prices, not Belgian transactions, and each model year groups different cars. I do not convert them into euros. The general mechanism is explained in luxury car depreciation.
How much are the regional taxes in Wallonia, Brussels and Flanders?
Next to nothing in Brussels and Flanders, and the same for both cars. In Wallonia, the registration tax depends on weight.
A note for readers new to Belgium: the TMC (taxe de mise en circulation) is a one-off registration tax paid each time a car is registered in a new owner's name; the annual road tax comes on top. Both are set by the region where the car is registered.
| Region, electric car registered in 2026 | Registration tax (TMC) | Annual road tax |
|---|---|---|
| Wallonia | €2,101.88 for a new Taycan 4S | €107.18 |
| Brussels | €78.88 for a private buyer | not verified |
| Flanders | €61.50, flat rate | €107.16 |
The Walloon formula in force from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 multiplies a base amount of €5,159.25 above 155 kW by the gross vehicle weight divided by 1,838 kg, then by an energy coefficient of 0.26 for an electric car of 250 kW or more. CO₂ plays no part. With a gross vehicle weight of 2,880 kg, the new Taycan 4S pays €2,101.88. Each 100 kg of gross vehicle weight is worth €72.98. A two-year-old car pays only 80% of that amount.
For the Model S, I found the gross vehicle weight in none of the public sources consulted. If the power shown in box P.2 of the registration certificate exceeds 250 kW, it falls into the same band and the same coefficient as the Taycan: box F1 alone will make the difference.
In Flanders, the exemption for electric cars ended on 1 January 2026. A used Model S re-registered there this year therefore pays the €61.50 flat rate.
Which one has the better after-sales network in Wallonia?
Porsche, with four sites against one. The Belgian Porsche network lists in Wallonia the Porsche Centre Liège in Grâce-Hollogne, the Porsche Centre Louvain-la-Neuve in Mont-Saint-Guibert, the Porsche Approved & Service Centre Hainaut in Estaimpuis and the Porsche Service Centre in Arlon. Tesla has seven service centres in Belgium, only one of them in Wallonia, in Awans. Neither brand has a site in the province of Namur.
The servicing schedules differ clearly:
- Porsche Taycan: a visit every 2 years or 30,000 km, with the pollen filter and brake fluid replaced each time;
- Tesla Model S: brake fluid check every 4 years, cabin filter every 2 years, HEPA filters every 3 years;
- Tesla Model S on salted roads: brake calipers cleaned and lubricated every year or every 20,000 km, which squarely targets a Belgian winter;
- Both: no Belgian workshop prices published, so no amount here.
Ask the dealer for a quote covering the first three years before you sign, not after.
Battery warranty: does Porsche or Tesla protect you better?
Tesla, for a high-mileage driver. Porsche, for low mileage.
Porsche covers the high-voltage battery for 8 years or 160,000 km, with 80% of net capacity up to 3 years or 60,000 km, then 70% until the end. Tesla covers the Model S battery and drive unit for 8 years or 240,000 km, with a 70% minimum capacity. The general Tesla warranty ends at 4 years or 80,000 km.
A May 2024 Model S bought in October 2026 therefore keeps about nineteen months of general warranty and its battery warranty until 2032.
Before signing for a used Model S, four checks:
- the date of first registration, which sets the end of both warranties;
- a battery state-of-health report, carried out in a workshop;
- the original catalogue price on the certificate of conformity, which sets the benefit in kind;
- the gross vehicle weight in box F1, which sets the Walloon tax.
The verdict, by profile
The Taycan appears with its electric rivals in the best electric luxury cars for company directors. The benefit-in-kind formula is detailed in the company car benefit-in-kind calculation. The cost of ownership model by model is in the luxury car ranking.
