There is no published BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Audi servicing price by model in Belgium. The price comes out of a calculator or a quote. The public benchmarks are elsewhere: the hourly rate, €90 to €120 excl. VAT at a premium dealer against €65 to €85 at a specialist independent, and the floor price of manufacturer contracts. With those two series, the trade-off can be put into figures.
It changes at five years.
How much does a BMW, Mercedes or Audi service cost at the dealer?
Nobody displays it. On 6 October 2026 I went through the service pages of all three brands for Belgium: BMW points to an online calculator, Mercedes-Benz to its Authorised Service Points, and the Audi garage I looked at gives a "provisional price" at booking, which "may vary depending on various factors". No grid by model, no oil change price.
The reason is mechanical as much as commercial. A recent BMW does not follow a fixed calendar: Condition Based Service monitors engine oil, front pads, rear pads, brake fluid and the particulate filter separately, then calls for each job when it falls due. Two 5 Series of the same age do not get the same bill in the same year.
That leaves the hourly rate, which the dealer must give you before the work starts. It is the figure to compare.
How much does servicing cost at an independent garage?
Between €25 and €35 excl. VAT less per hour than a premium dealer, depending on whether you compare the bottom or the top of the ranges.
| Type of workshop, 2024 ranges | Hourly rate excl. VAT | Hourly rate incl. 21% VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Premium dealer (BMW, Mercedes-Benz) | €90 to €120 | €108.90 to €145.20 |
| Volume-brand dealer | €75 to €95 | €90.75 to €114.95 |
| Specialist independent | €65 to €85 | €78.65 to €102.85 |
| Franchise network | €55 to €70 | €66.55 to €84.70 |
| General independent | €50 to €65 | €60.50 to €78.65 |
Figures published on 10 November 2024, source GarageMetrics. These ranges are two years old, no official series updates them, and I publish them as they stand instead of indexing them by hand.
At the midpoints, €105 at a premium dealer against €75 at a specialist independent, the gap is €30 excl. VAT, or €36.30 incl. VAT per hour billed. A general independent goes lower still, but on a recent luxury car price is not the only question: the garage needs the brand's diagnostic tool and access to the digital service record.
This calculation says nothing about parts. I found no public, dated source comparing, in Belgium, the price of genuine parts at a dealer with that of equivalent-quality parts at an independent. So I publish no percentage on that line.
After five years, BMW takes off 15% and the gap halves
BMW Belgium applies its 5 Year Plus Services programme to every BMW more than five years old, counted from first registration. The discount is 15%, and it applies both to the hourly rate and to the price of genuine parts. Roadside assistance, which BMW values at €300, is renewed until the next service.
I ran the calculation again with that discount.
| Hours of labour billed | Saving at the independent, car under 5 years | Saving at the independent, BMW over 5 years |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | €36.30 | €17.24 |
| 2 hours | €73 | €34 |
| 4 hours | €145 | €69 |
| 6 hours | €218 | €103 |
| 10 hours | €363 | €172 |
My own calculation, incl. VAT, at the midpoints of the GarageMetrics ranges: €105 excl. VAT brought down to €89.25 after the discount, against €75 at the specialist independent. The gap goes from €30 to €14.25 excl. VAT per hour.
On a two-hour service, leaving the BMW network therefore saves €34 after five years. And since the discount also covers genuine parts, the independent's advantage shrinks on both lines of the invoice at once. That is exactly when most owners think about leaving, and exactly when the manufacturer has worked out it needs to keep them.
At five years, BMW is not doing you a favour. It is matching the garage across the road halfway.
Mercedes-Benz and Audi do not publish an equivalent percentage discount on their Belgian pages. Mercedes-Benz answers with a contract aimed at used cars, set out below.
What does a manufacturer service contract cover?
The service schedule, and rarely more at the entry tier.
| Contract | Public price | Term | Cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| BMW Service Inclusive Basic | On calculation | 6 years at most, extensions included | Prescribed servicing, oil, filters, spark plugs, brake fluid |
| Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare | From €21 incl. VAT a month | Up to 4 years, 2 to 4 services | Scheduled services, filters, oils, genuine parts, Mobilo assistance |
| Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare Used | From €26 incl. VAT a month | Up to 4 years, 2 to 4 services | Scheduled services on a used car, Mobilo assistance |
| Mercedes-Benz CompleteCare | From €26 incl. VAT a month | Up to 72 months or 250,000 km | Servicing, wear parts, repairs, new cars only |
| Audi weCare Silver, Gold, Platinum | On simulation | 3 to 8 years, 30,000 to 210,000 km | Servicing and wear parts, then extended warranty, then tyres |
Mercedes-Benz prices checked on 6 October 2026, valid until 31 December 2026. They are floor prices, for the cheapest model in the range.
The exclusions in BMW's basic contract deserve a line-by-line read, because these are the items that weigh on a luxury car:
- brake discs and pads;
- the clutch;
- wiper blades;
- tyre balancing;
- paint, corrosion, glass and lighting damage.
Put differently, the entry contract pays for the oil changes and leaves you the price of a set of discs and pads. At Mercedes-Benz, ServiceCare Used excludes AMG models and hybrids. At Audi, the extended warranty in the Gold tier must be taken out within 30 days of delivery.
All of these contracts tie you to the official network. That is what they are for.
Is a car service contract worth the money?
It buys a fixed price, not a saving. The distinction matters.
At the floor price, ServiceCare costs €252 incl. VAT a year, or €1,008 over four years. ServiceCare Used, €312 a year and €1,248 over four years. To know whether that is expensive, you need the quote from the same Authorised Service Point for the same services paid one by one, and the quote from an independent. Without those two figures, you are comparing a monthly payment with nothing.
Two clauses in the BMW contract shift the calculation. The first works for you: the contract cannot be moved to another car, but its rights follow the vehicle if it changes owner, which makes it a selling point. The second works against you: ordered with the car, it can no longer be cancelled. Taken out afterwards, it can be terminated within 60 days if no work has been done.
My view as a former fleet manager: the contract makes sense if you sell before it ends and the buyer sees a guaranteed history in it. It makes less sense on a car kept for eight years, where the expensive years are the ones the contract no longer covers.
At what age does leaving the network pay off?
From the end of the warranty on paper, between three and five years in practice, and less than you would think after that.
During the manufacturer warranty, you are entitled to go elsewhere for routine servicing, under strict conditions that I set out in the article on independent servicing and the warranty. The €36.30 per hour gap already exists. Many owners pass on it to avoid any argument if something breaks, and that reasoning holds up.
Between the end of the warranty and the fifth year, the gap is at its full size and nothing holds you back, apart from a warranty extension tied to the network. This is the window where a specialist independent saves the most.
Beyond five years, at BMW, the labour gap falls to €17.24 per hour. The big items arrive at that point, and they change the scale: over ten hours in the workshop, the independent still saves €172, but the invoice is decided by the parts. The typical case is costed in air suspension replacement cost.
Belgians, for their part, leave slowly. According to Test-Achats, the Belgian consumer organisation, 77% have their car serviced at a brand dealer: 94% during the first two years, still 65% between seven and ten years. The survey dates from January 2020 and covers all brands, not just the premium segment.
Wallonia, Brussels, Flanders: does the labour rate change?
Yes, by 10 to 15% between Flanders, which is dearer, and Wallonia, according to the same source. Brussels and Walloon Brabant sit above Hainaut and the province of Luxembourg.
Everything else is identical across the three regions: 21% VAT, manufacturer contracts, the 15% discount at BMW. Someone from Namur who has the car serviced in Antwerp pays the Antwerp rate.
Company car: do you get to choose the garage?
Almost never. Under operational leasing, known as renting in Belgium, servicing is included in the monthly payment and the lessor names the network. Manufacturer contracts shut the door from their side too: ServiceCare Used is not open to leasing companies.
The question only becomes yours again if you buy the car at the end of the contract. Monthly payments and return charges are broken down in the real cost of leasing a luxury car in Belgium.
One last point if you buy in your own name. A complete history, in the network or at a recognised specialist, weighs on luxury car depreciation at resale. Saving €34 a service is pointless if the invoices are unreadable. Three-year ownership costs, model by model, are in the luxury car ranking.
