A day at Spa-Francorchamps costs €389 on the circuit's website and at least €499 on your bank statement. The gap comes down to two lines the brochure leaves out: the helmet and track insurance. Fuel and wear come next, and they are what makes the bill vary by a factor of three.
The circuit is paid by the minute. A crash is paid at the value of the car.
How much does a track day at Spa-Francorchamps cost?
Between €389 and €1,199 for the right to drive, depending on format and date. Checked on 29 September 2026 on the official pages and organisers' price lists:
| Format | Track access | Track time | Cost per hour of open track |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public Driving Experience, circuit, 4 sessions | €389 | 4 × 25 min | €233.40 |
| Public Driving Experience, 1 session | €135 | 25 min | €324.00 |
| Skylimit Events, full day (1 April 2026 price) | €901.00 | 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 6 pm | €112.63 |
| RSRSpa Premium, 12 October 2026 | €899 | 10 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 6 pm | €128.43 |
| RSRSpa Premium, 11 November 2026 | €699 | full day | not calculated |
| RSRSpa Premium, 4 and 5 August 2026 | €1,199 per day | full day | not calculated |
The hourly figure is my own calculation: price divided by the time the track is open. On an open pit lane day you will not drive for eight hours, nobody does. But the comparison makes one thing clear: the official format is twice as expensive per hour, and for a reason.
Public Driving Experience or organised track day: which format for a first time?
The circuit's own format, if you have never driven on track.
The Public Driving Experience is sold by the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps itself, on six dates in 2026. No timing, fixed session times, a compulsory briefing and marshals who enforce the spirit of the day. You pick a pack of four sessions spread across the day, which leaves time to cool the brakes and your head between runs.
An organised track day runs as open pit lane. RSRSpa caps the number of cars, requires at least 300 hp unless granted an exception, and accepts slick tyres, which the circuit refuses at the Public Driving Experience. Skylimit Events recommends that first-timers take its introductory track course at Circuit Zolder first. Brand clubs also run their own days: Porsche Club Francorchamps Days listed €995 per day in April 2026, and Lotus On Track reserves some dates for members.
Three full budgets, from €499 to €1,862

On a luxury car worth more than €100,000, track insurance will not stay at €80: that figure is a floor published by the insurer, not a quote. For fuel, the official Belgian maximum price for a litre of 98 E5 petrol has been €2.322 since 27 September 2026 according to the FPS Economy, which is €139.32 per 60 litres. There is a fuel station at the circuit, card payment only.
Nothing in this budget depends on the Belgian region where your car is registered: insurance is governed by federal law, and the circuit applies the same rules to a Walloon, Brussels or Flemish plate.
Does my car insurance cover the circuit?
As a rule, not for your own car. And this is the point most owners discover when it is too late.
Assuralia, the Belgian insurers' federation, sums up the legal framework: the statutory conditions for compulsory motor liability (RC auto) cover exclude authorised races and competitions held on a closed circuit. The organiser must then take out organiser's liability cover, which protects spectators, not participants' cars. A session without timing is not a race in the strict sense, but the question that matters lies elsewhere: damage to your own car falls under comprehensive cover (omnium in Belgium), and that is where the "track use" exclusion is most often written.
RSRSpa, based in Stavelot and a track car rental company, says it plainly: in the vast majority of cases, ordinary car insurance does not cover accidents on a race track.
The second surprise is more expensive. On a track day, road rules do not apply, and each participant usually pays for their own car, even if someone else hit it. Some organisers only allow overtaking on straights or by invitation, which sometimes makes it possible to assign a share of fault. Sometimes.
Do I need one-day track insurance?
Yes, as soon as losing the car would change your life.
Specialist insurers sell single-day and multi-day cover. Trackdayinsurance.com, the partner recommended by RSRSpa, covers physical damage whoever is at fault, most cars up to €150,000 and agreed values up to €300,000, online below €90,000 and on referral above. Its entry price is €80. RSRSpa's page also lists Gullwing in the Netherlands and Pole Position Assurances in France.
The rental company shows the scale of the risk. On a rented Hyundai i30 N, RSRSpa's track excess is €25,000; bringing it down to €12,000 costs €876. On the supercars in its fleet, the excess rises to €200,000. Apply those figures to your own car and the decision becomes a budget line, not a question of nerve.
Agreed value works the same way as on the road, as explained in the article on agreed value and windscreens for premium cars.
Which cars are allowed on track?
A roadworthy car in good condition, under 103 dB, with a towing eye. Everything else depends on the organiser, and being turned away is costly because bookings are non-refundable.
- The Public Driving Experience refuses slicks, race cars, SUVs and off-roaders.
- RSRSpa refuses SUVs and single-seaters, and asks for at least 300 hp unless granted an exception.
- Skylimit Events refuses electric cars and large SUVs at Spa.
- Everywhere, the noise limit is 103 dB. At Skylimit, a second warning takes you off track for the day.
A Porsche Cayenne therefore stays in the paddock, and a Porsche Taycan depends on the organiser. A Porsche 911, a BMW M3, an Alpine or a Lotus meet the circuit's rules, as long as the exhaust stays within the limit; at RSRSpa, also check the 300 hp threshold on entry-level versions. On a valved exhaust, drive with the valves closed if the mode exists: the sound meter measures what comes out of the pipe, not what the spec sheet promises.
How do you prepare the day in seven steps?
- Book the format two months ahead. At RSRSpa, every day from April to September 2026 was sold out, and rental cars for 12 October were too. Cost: €389 to €1,199.
- Check the car is eligible: noise, towing eye, body type, powertrain. Time: ten minutes reading the rules. Common mistake: booking with an SUV or an electric car without reading the conditions.
- Get your insurer's position in writing, then buy track insurance a week ahead. From €80.
- Have brakes, tyres and fluids checked by a workshop two weeks before. Braking is not something to prepare on your driveway.
- Prepare your kit: helmet, long sleeves, long trousers and closed shoes, all compulsory at the Public Driving Experience. Helmet hire: €30 at the circuit, €10 at Skylimit.
- On the day, arrive one hour before your first session. The briefing is compulsory, and under a Full Course Yellow at Skylimit, speed drops to 60 km/h until the green flag.
- Afterwards, have the pads and brake fluid checked again before going back to daily driving.
How much tyre and brake wear should you expect?
I found no public, dated and verifiable data series putting a figure on the tyre, pad or brake fluid wear of a day at Spa-Francorchamps. So I am not publishing an amount.
Two certainties only. Wear depends on weight, power and pace far more than on the circuit: a light Alpine or Lotus asks less of its tyres and brakes than a heavier BMW M saloon driven at the same pace. And on a sports car fitted with carbon-ceramic brakes or semi-slick tyres, this unquantified item, not the entry ticket, decides the real price of the day. Ask your workshop for parts prices before booking, not after.
The entry price is on a web page. The wear shows up on the next invoice.
The track remains the only place where driving fast is legal, supervised and paid for. It does not make up for anything you hold back on the road. To put a figure on the annual cost of a sports car away from the circuit, the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin Vantage are compared over three years, and luxury car depreciation explains why a track history sometimes weighs on resale. Model-by-model ownership costs are in the luxury car ranking.
